News

So much for "every Sunday"...A lot has been going on since I last posted. I found out that I got accepted into the UVU nursing program. I am very excited and I'll be starting my nursing classes in January. Also, I finished my CNA class yesterday so I am officially looking for CNA jobs. Also, I'm excited to have my Saturdays back.

Our Halloween party turned out to be the most rocking-est time probably ever. The siblings came over and we made pizza. Kelsey made the coolest cookies I've ever seen. They looked like severed fingers. And they tasted good. We had a guitar hero tournament and then ended the night watching The Skeleton Key. The costumes were awesome (with the exception of mine which was lame). David was Luigi and I was supposed to be Mario, but alas, our plans fell through. It would have been amazing, though.

David is continuing to prepare for Law School magnificently. He is consistently rocking his LSAT practice tests and I'm very proud of him. He's definitely going to get in. He's taking his test on December 5 so I will keep everyone updated on how he does. His classes are going well, as expected, and I'm sure he's going to ace all of them. I successfully made it through my anatomy midterms without dying and I am now counting down the days until I'm done with that horrible class. It's torture and I'm praying very hard that I get at least a C in the class so I don't have to re-take it. My other classes are going well and I'm glad that I kept my schedule to a minimum this semester so I would have extra time to spend with the cadavers. Sara has been great to help me study as she will probably be taking anatomy at BYU next semester. This gives her a little head start.

Last weekend, David and I got to go to his cousin Lindsey's wedding. The wedding was up Millcreek Canyon in Salt Lake at this lodge-restaurant place. It was absolutly beautiful and we are very excited for her. We took a few pictures of the set-up (I didn't take any during the ceremony) which I will probably include here.

We had our very first snow storm of the season yesterday. I must admit that I was kind of excited about it as it makes it feel a little like Christmas time. I may have even played a little Christmas music. I know that's not allowed for another couple of weeks, but I just couldn't help it! David and I are going to be doing a Christmas card this year (aren't we cute??) so I may be calling some of you guys to get addresses if I don't have them. I hope you don't think they are lame. We are excited about it and have been planning for like a month. Hope all is well with everyone. I'll keep you updated!

It's been a while...

So I am ashamed that it has been about 4 months since the last time I posted. I'm going to do better from now on. Things have been crazy with school starting again and with applications for nursing school and such. I have been working like a mad woman to get a satisfactory grade in anatomy which is what is taking up most of my time now. It's a crazy class with crazy teachers who are pretty much trying to kill me. I just finished midterms and only have 5 weeks left. Let the countdown begin!!

I received my acceptance letter for the LPN program that I applied for and I am now waiting for a response from UVU's BSN program. The BSN program is my first choice, but I will most definitely be going to the LPN program if the BSN doesn't work out.

David recently made the decision that he is going to go to law school after he graduates in April so much of his time has been spent preparing for the LSAT. He's been doing really well on the practice tests and I'm sure he's going to get into law school and be at the top of his class. He's amazing.

Halloween is coming up this weekend and David and I are planning a "Rocktoberfest" for the younger siblings at our apartment. We're so excited. We're going to watch a scary movie and eat Halloween candy. It's going to be a lot of fun and I will be posting pictures up here some time in the near future. In anticipation of this upcoming hoo-rah, David carved an AMAZING pumpkin last night. It's the headless horseman and I'm not going to want to toss it out when it starts rotting. I'll definitely be taking a lot of pictures and if I don't post pictures with this post, it will be with the next.

Anyway...I'm going visiting teaching now. I promise I'll write again soon!

It's Time for a New Post!

Yes, that time has arrived. I am again putting off studying and this seemed like a good way to do it. I have finals today and tomorrow. I just finished my first one. Tomorrow at 6:30 in the morning I will be sitting in a classroom taking my math final and then at 8:00 pm, I will officially be done with my microbiology class! Yay! I'm very excited. Wednesday I start chemistry and biology and nutrition.

It's been a busy summer and more and more I'm deciding that I can't wait until I graduate. I'm very lucky, however to have the most amazing husband in the whole wide world. He is so supportive and sweet! I was having a stressful day last week and when David picked me up from work, he had roses for me and took me on a date. I'm pretty lucky. The flowers are beautiful and I've included a picture.

So for the past little while, David and I have been in search of something that resembles a piano and today, we got lucky! We found a really cute digital piano at a music store in Orem that was a really good price. So we got it and have been playing around all day. I'm am beside myself with joy! David has decided he wants to learn to play. Probably he will have it mastered in a week. He is amazing on musical instruments.

Speaking of David and his talents...David recently completed a piece of artwork that is absolutly beautiful. I'm not allowed to say what it is yet, because it's for his grandma for her birthday and she probably hasn't gotten it in the mail yet. When that time arrives, I'm going to post a picture of it on here. I am a little covetous and probably some of you will be too. It's beautiful. He's so talented!

There's a songwriting convention in Salt Lake in August and I've decided to go. I'm really excited about it. A part of it is a songwriting competition and I submitted my song this morning. The winner of the competition will get to have their song arranged by Tyler Castleton, who is probably my favorite arranger of all time. I'm pretty excited and keeping my fingers very crossed.

Hey Everybody, It's Family Night

Hello, Everyone!

I'm am back yet again. First of all, I caught David with another fabulous hair-do earlier this week. Don't worry, I captured it for you this time. It's The Superman. And it's probably time both of us got hair cuts.

Well tonight for family night, David and I decided to make Gyoza. David and his family liked to make gyoza on Christmas Eve which is a tradition that David and I picked up on last year. However, we liked them so much we decided we need to eat them more than once a year. They are SO GOOD! So tonight has been spent chopping and mixing and eating. Fun stuff. Now some of you may be wondering what a gyoza is. When David first told me that his family makes gyoza, I was right there with you. I did not know what they were. Don't worry. I found this on wikipedia. (What would we do without Wikipeida?)

gyōza (Japanese transliteration), or pot sticker is a Chinese dumpling, widely popular in China and Japan as well as outside of East Asia, particularly in North America. Jiaozi typically consist of a ground meat and/or vegetable filling wrapped into a thinly rolled piece of dough, which is then sealed by pressing the edges together or by crimping. Jiaozi should not be confused with wonton.

(I like how it says "Jiaozi should not be confused with wonton"...that's very important, folks.) Anyway, I have included pictures because I know everyone wants to see them.

So I'm interviewing tomorrow for a new job...sort of. This should probably not come as a surprise to anyone as I tend to change jobs about once a year. Once I finally finish my degree, this will change. Have no fear. But this is an offer too good to resist. This morning, I got a call from the charge nurse at the surgical center who informed me that there was an opening there for an anesthesia tech. So, I'm interviewing tomorrow! Hopefully I get the position, because I would love a little more patient interaction and a little more hanging out in the OR. Also, I would love having weekends and holidays off again. And also, decontam is getting kind of old and has always been pretty gross. The End.

I'm down to my last week and a half of classes and I'm very excited. If I don't get into the nursing program for Spring 2010, I'm going to have to retake a bunch of classes. So I'm hoping that I won't have any issues. It will be fabulous once I'm actually in the program.

David has decided that he wants to write a computer program that helps organize food storage: when it expires, what nutrients are covered, etc. I'm pretty excited about it! If anyone has any ideas (and wants a copy) I'm sure David would love input on what would be good and useful features.

Ok. I should go do homework.

Wasting Time...

So David's been doing a really good job at posting his summer project and I have not been very good at writing so I thought it was time that I updated everyone again. Pretty much I'm avoiding studying. Unfortunately, there's not a whole lot to update on....but I'll try to make it interesting. And then I'll hit the books.

Mostly we've been up the same old work and school routine. I'm getting ready to finish spring semester and I could not be happier. I'm hating microbiology today and hoping that I can do well on the next two tests. After I'm done with Micro and Math, I'll be taking biology and chemistry and then I'm done with my prerequisites! Yay! Today we started a project in Microbiology Lab where our professor gave us two unknown bacteria and we have to identify them using the tests we've learned throughout the semester. I think it's kinda fun, actually, but it takes a long time. If you can't find me for the next three to five days, I'm probably in the lab.

David has been enjoying his summer break (except for recent visits to the dentist) and has been developing some of his talents. You can see how good he is at computer programming, but he has also been working on developing a new talent...styling hair! As you can see from the photo, he is very good at it (and his serious model face). :) He also styled a mohawk the other day (a fo-hawk to be more accurate...). To my dismay, the camera was not handy so I didn't get to capture the masterpiece. But you can bet I'll be keeping my eyes open for more new styles.

David and I continue to try to "train" for our 10K that is now coming in about 3 weeks. I am feeling very unprepared, but I'm still excited. I think it will be a lot of fun, even if my little brother and sister kick my trash.

Pretty much I can't think of anything else to write about. I should probably go and study. We'll keep you updated!

Here's another fun thing I did in Flash today:

Yesterday I spent a while trying to learn to program games in Flash. This is the first file I've made, which doesn't do a whole lot but I was excited when I figured out how to make something move using the arrow keys. The reason it changes color when you go different directions is because I wanted to make sure I could have it display different symbols depending on what direction it's going. That way a game character can look like they're walking up/down/left/right. I added the little bouncing white circle because I knew that a walking character would need to have a walking animation in each of its walking directions. I haven't gotten the animation to run except when the square is standing still - I still have to figure that out.

Here are a few things I learned: (this was programmed using actionscript 2.0)

• The keylistener.onKeyUp event only tells you that some key on the keyboard has been released, but not which key. At first I thought I could use Key.getCode() to found out which key, but it turns out Key.getCode() only tells you the most recent key that was pressed. This means that if you press and hold the down arrow, then press and hold the left arrow at the same time, then release the down arrow, the Key.getCode() method will tell the the left arrow because it was last key pressed, even thought the down arrow is the one that triggered onKeyUp.
• Hit tests are really easy in flash because movieclips already have a built in method called hitTest. I used it in code for the space bar. If you press the space bar nothing will happen unless you move the red square so it's touching the blue-green colored oval at the top. The code for the hit test is "if (s1.hitTest(npc)){bblHi._visible=true}". You just type the name of one movieclip (the instance name of the square is s1) and then .hitTest(instance name of second movieclip) (the blue green oval is called npc).

Hello to everyone! This is the first official David and Whitney blog. Hopefully I can keep this updated since I'm probably the worst person I know at emailing, etc.

David and I are currently just being our busy little selves. I'm taking classes this summer trying to get through with school ASAP. Right now, I'm finishing the last of my prerequisite nursing classes so I can finally apply at the end of summer semester! David is working right now, taking a break from school until he starts back in the fall as a senior! We're pretty excited about David's last year as an undergraduate!

We have recently taken up gardening in front of our little apartment. We planted some cute little impatiens and we're trying to grow some tomatoes. The flowers are blooming but, alas, the tomatoes are not faring so well. Hopefully we can fix that! We got some good advice from our home teacher today and we will not give up!

Summer has officially started in Provo as Seven Peaks Water Park opened up. David and I bought season passes there for this year and we went for the first time this week! It was so much fun! David doesn't like the water slides as much as I do...but he's the best at waiting for me at the bottom! We have a lot of fun swimming in the wave pool and I'm excited to be able to go whenever we want! It's going to be a great summer!

David and I are working on a duet for voice lessons! It's a lot of fun singing with him! We'll hopefully get a chance to perform it sometime this summer. My voice teacher says she has a lot of concerts set up. We got our song this week and we're probably going to do "A Little Fall of Rain" from Les Miserables. I'm having a lot of fun at it and I'm pretty sure David is too! He is also working on a few Rachmanninoff pieces which I think are so cool! I'm doing a German song for the first time--a Shubert piece that is beautiful! We love singing and it's so much fun to be able to work on music together!

Well that pretty much sums up what's been going on recently! I'll try to update this often.
